Replace Your Bathroom Faucet

Unfortunately faucets don’t last forever. Especially with the mineral rich water we have in SWFL. But, changing it out to a new one is something you can probably do. I will say that plumbing fixtures, like many components of your home, is not something you want to try to go economy grade on. A faucet gets a lot of use and with the amount of minerals found here in the local water, the wear and tear is even greater. So you’d be wise to invest in a quality grade fixture. This video pretty much explains all you need to know to get this job done. And with the money you save by installing it yourself, you can buy a better quality faucet.

How To Caulk A Bathtub

This is a good method for getting a good clean caulk job on your bathtub. I don’t personally use this method but I’ve seen a thousand tubs where someone should have. I’m not at liberty to reveal the exact method I use due to restrictions by government authorities, various tribal agreements and several trade organizations but once you’ve caulked your 1000th tub you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about. But if you’re fairly new to the world of tub caulking, this is a good way to go.

How To Unclog A Drain

Youโ€™ve been there, Iโ€™m sure. One of your drains is stopped up and you grab for the plunger (if you have one). But as with most things, unless you know the tricks it may be ineffective. Well hereโ€™s the tricks.

How Your Septic System Works

This video is from Canada, but itโ€™s basically the same system as far as how it functions. As you can see, bacteria plays a major role in the operation of your septic system. For this reason you want to avoid putting chemicals or bleach down your drains. The bacteria can not survive contact with these materials and if you kill the hardworking bacteria the system will no longer function.

A great video by “This Old House” TV show further illustrates how your septic system works and what happens if you put the wrong things into the system.

Change Your Bathroom Vanity

A new vanity can make a big change in your bathroom. Most of the newer vanities are higher than the older ones so take good measurements and note how high your electrical receptacle and any other obstacles are so you buy the correct vanity. Also, if the vanity has drawers, consider how your plumbing is going to work out with that configuration. Itโ€™s a good idea to write all those dimensions down and take it with you. The sales associate should be able to help you select the right one.
